I discover beef jerky.
6 months later, I’m creating launching Tof, a beef jerky company.
My first experience with beef jerky is Jack Link’s. That’s the american global leader. Kind of of the Coca-Cola of beef jerky.
I find it at a Deli Traiteur while looking for a salty snack after sports. I like the convenience of snacking it on my way home. Taste and texture are OK, but I have issues with the product, biggest one being the ingredients list : Brazilian meat, nitrites, flavour enhancers… Not great. Great nutritional values however ! Lots of proteins, low fat. Perfect after sports !
After buying it a couple of times I was growing more and more curious about the product, and more and more guilty about buying Brazilian beef in Belgium, a land known for the quality of its beef.
Hence, I started wondering if I could make my own.
“How is beef jerky made, anyway ?” I thought.
That’s what triggered me to make my first batch of beef jerky, in my flat’s kitchen :
- curiosity
- not having access to a good brand easily
I didn’t know it back then, but this was the starting point.
